The Story Behind The Initiave
Tanks to Our Veterans
Since 2020, our team has poured time, heart, and gratitude into Tanks to Our Veterans, an annual initiative created alongside our partners at EMCO and Rheem to honour local Veterans, remember those who gave their lives in service, and recognize the families who have sacrificed alongside them.
The idea began in a simple team huddle with one question:
How can we give back to the Veterans in our community?
Our bookkeeper, Linda Cretney, shared that she had been inspired by a show where roofing companies provided a free roof for Veterans.
That sparked an idea.
What if we gave away water heaters instead?
Then one of our technicians at the time, Zach Jilg, spoke up.
With tears in his eyes, Zach shared the story of his best friend, Pte. Chad Horn, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan alongside Cpl. Andrew Grenon and Cpl. Mike Seggie.
He asked if we would consider giving away three water heaters in their memory.
That moment changed everything.
Tanks to Our Veterans was born.
We brought the idea to Ryland Nicholson and Scott West at EMCO Victoria, who helped connect us with our friends at Rheem. Rheem generously stepped forward to donate the water heaters, while members of the Wade Roberts Plumbing team volunteered their time alongside Wade to install them.
What began with three water heaters has grown into a tradition that means so much to our team.
Since 2020, we have had the privilege of providing 28 Veterans with new Rheem water heaters, bringing a little more comfort and peace of mind into the homes of those who have given so much.
Today, we continue the tradition by giving away five water heaters each year to local Veterans.
It is a small gesture compared to their sacrifice, but one that comes from a place of deep gratitude.

Just a Few of the Stories of Our Veterans
We had the incredible privilege of recognizing Lesley Quin, a Canadian Veteran who dedicated 25 years of her life to serving in the Navy, including during the Cold War.
Lesley's unwavering commitment and sacrifices during such a pivotal time in history reflect the courage, resilience, and selflessness that define our nation’s heroes.
As part of our Tanks to Our Veterans initiative, we were thrilled to present Lesley with a new water heater as a small token of our deep appreciation for her service. Her contributions have not only safeguarded our freedoms but also inspired countless Canadians to honor the sacrifices of those who serve.
Lesley, thank you for your dedication to our country and for standing strong during one of history’s most challenging eras. Your service will never be forgotten.
We had the privilege of installing a water heater for Private Jack Milner, a remarkable 96-year-old WW2 veteran who served in the infantry in France. It was an honor and an inspiration to hear his story of courage and bravery, and to be able to give back in a small way.
The stories we've heard during these installations provide an inspiring glimpse into the lives of incredibly courageous individuals who've made great sacrifices for our beloved nation.
On-site, we share a moment of silence, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers who never returned home. Today, and every day, we hold them and their families in our hearts and honor their sacrifices.
