The Story Behind The Initiave
Since 2020, our team has poured time and heart into Tanks to Our Veterans, an annual initiative we created with our partners Rheem and EMCO to honor those who have served and to remember the fallen heroes and their families who have sacrificed so much.
The idea began in a simple team huddle when we asked, “How can we give back to the Veterans in our community?”
Linda Cretney, our bookeeper, shared how she had seen roofers on TV providing free roofs for Veterans.
Inspired, we asked ourselves: “What if we gave away water heaters instead?”
That’s when Zach Jilg, one of our technicians, spoke up with tears in his eyes. He shared how his best friend, Pte. Chad Horn, was killed in Afghanistan, alongside Cpl. Andrew Grenon and Cpl. Mike Seggie. Overcome with emotion, he asked if we would consider giving away three water heaters in their memory. From that powerful moment, Tanks to Our Veterans was born.
We brought the idea to Ryland and Scott at EMCO, who then shared it with Rheem and they jumped on board to support our mission by donating the water tanks. Then members of our team jumped on board with Wade, volunteering their time to install them. Since then, we have been honored to serve 23 Veterans with new Rheem water heaters, bringing comfort into their homes where it matters most.
Today, each year, we continue to give away five water heaters to local Veterans. It is a small but meaningful way to say: We remember. We honor. We thank you.

Just a Few of the Stories of Our Veterans
Last year, we had the incredible privilege of recognizing Lesley Quin, a Canadian Veteran who dedicated 25 years of her life to serving in the Navy, including during the Cold War.
Lesley's unwavering commitment and sacrifices during such a pivotal time in history reflect the courage, resilience, and selflessness that define our nation’s heroes.
As part of our Tanks to Our Veterans initiative, we were thrilled to present Lesley with a new water heater as a small token of our deep appreciation for her service. Her contributions have not only safeguarded our freedoms but also inspired countless Canadians to honor the sacrifices of those who serve.
Lesley, thank you for your dedication to our country and for standing strong during one of history’s most challenging eras. Your service will never be forgotten.
A few years back, we had the privilege of installing a FREE water heater for Private Jack Milner, a remarkable 96-year-old WW2 veteran who served in the infantry in France. It was an honor and an inspiration to hear his story of courage and bravery, and to be able to give back in a small way.
The stories we've heard during these installations provide an inspiring glimpse into the lives of incredibly courageous individuals who've made great sacrifices for our beloved nation.
On-site, we share a moment of silence, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers who never returned home. Today, and every day, we hold them and their families in our hearts and honor their sacrifices.
