Not Sure If It’s Time For A New Water Heater? Here Are Some Signs

The Age of Your Water Heater


If your water heater is more than 10 years old, it is time to get a replacement. If you are not sure about how old it is, check the serial number, usually found at the top of the heater unit. Visit the manufacturer’s website and input the serial number. You will get more information about the unit, including its age.

 

Leaks


You don’t even need a water leak detector to see that your heater is leaking. You may spot a puddle of water on the floor or see water coming out of your unit. Leaks are emergencies because the tank could easily burst, flooding your home. The best thing to do when you notice water around your unit is to shut off your device and call in an expert. Rust-colored Water 


With continuous use, the steel in your water heater rusts. When this happens, you will see that the color of the water has changed. That rusty water is a clear indication that you need to change your water heater.

Old water heaters lose their capacity to heat properly. They are unable to heat water due to sediment buildup. There is also a chance that your thermostat is misadjusted or that the heating element is broken.
